SAFE PASSAGE IS LOOKING FOR AN EDUCATIONAL DIRECTOR

Subordinates:  Reinforcement Center Coordinator and Day Care Center Coordinator

Safe Passage works with the poorest at-risk children of families working in the Guatemala City garbage dump. Within a safe and caring environment, we provide a comprehensive and integrated program that fosters hope, good health, educational achievement, self-sufficiency, self esteem and confidence.  Safe Passage is currently seeking a full time Educational Director to work at its program sites in Guatemala City.

The Educational Director will lead Safe Passage’s educational programs and activities including: curriculum development, teacher hiring and training, assessment and evaluation, networking with outside schools, NGO’s and community agencies, working closely with Social Work Department, working with Executive Director and staff to design a comprehensive program that continues to provide the children with opportunities to reach their goals.

The Educational Director must have management experience as well as strong verbal and written communication skills and also be able to fulfill the responsibilities below.  The Educational Director reports to Safe Passage’s Executive Director and is a member of the Guatemala senior management team. Responsibilities:

  • Manage the program sites in Guatemala City and supervise: Educational Reinforcement Center Director, Early Childhood Director, English Program Coordinator and Adult Literacy Coordinator.
  • Develop systems within departments to ensure greatest effectiveness of resources.
  • Manage the overall budget for educational programs and activities, and provide monthly report to Executive Director.
  • Work closely together with management team in Guatemala.
  • Develop curriculum and educational opportunities for Safe Passage’s children along with key staff; explore new programs and creative measures to enhance the children’s educational experience.
  • Conduct evaluations to ensure the academic progress, social development, and health of Safe Passage’s students.
  • Act as a liaison between Safe Passage and universities, companies and support agencies in Guatemala.
  • Lead committees and promote activities that link Safe Passage with its local community.
  • Develop and implement the scholarship programs to further opportunities for vocational training, higher education, and opportunities post graduation from Safe Passage.
  • Available to share experiences with donors and sponsors in order to help fundraising activities.
  • Collaborate on special projects and partnerships as requested by the Executive Director.

General Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Education or comparable field
  • Educational experience with children and teenagers. Experience working with at-risk populations a plus.
  • Excellent communications skills and comfort working with a diverse population
  • Strong leadership skills, people skills and managing experience of at least three years
  • Flexible schedule, able to work evenings and weekends when needed.
  • Fully bilingual, Windows and Internet knowledge needed. Available to work in a bilingual environment (English / Spanish)
