Seven Graduate in '09 from Adult Literacy!
The end of the 2009 school year brings a new class of Adult Literacy graduates who plan to continue their studies in 2010.
In the month of November, Safe Passage held a graduation ceremony for seven students: six mothers and Andres, who works as a security guard at Safe Passage. Andres is the first male to graduate in the history of the Adult Literacy Program!
All seven students have plans to continue on to Basicos in 2010 with financial scholarships. The women's scholarships will be paid for by friends of the Texas-based non-profit Shared Beat, and Andres will be continuing on to Basicos with a scholarship from Susan Attermeier, co-founder of the Adult Literacy Program.
Additionally, six of last year's eight Adult Literacy graduates have successfully passed Segundo Basico this year. These women completed two grades in a single year as participants in an accelerated adult education program at a local high school. A scholarship from Safe Passage will enable them to continue on to Third basico in 2010.
