Visit Your Sponsored Child
Child sponsors have the special opportunity to meet their child while visiting Guatemala whether it is as part of a Support Team, during a volunteer trip, or on a personal trip. Safe Passage's sponsorship team will help coordinate the one-day visit between sponsor and child and will accompany the sponsor during the visit to help translate. Spending time with your child deepens the connection between sponsor and child, and makes the correspondence and relationship all the more meaningful.
Planning your Visit
- Contact sponsorship@safepassage.org with the date that you are considering for your visit. To allow adequate time for Safe Passage’s sponsorship team to make arrangements and receive permission slips for the child please notify us at least 3 weeks in advance of your travel dates whenever possible.
- Preferably we will plan your visit on a weekday during the session (morning or afternoon) that your child is attending the Safe Passage program so that we do not interfere with the child’s public school attendance.
- Upon confirming your dates, our sponsorship manager in Guatemala will be in touch with you to coordinate the visit with your sponsor child and arrange the budget for the excursion.
- If you bring a small gift for your child, please inform the sponsorship team so it can be given at an appropriate time. Please carry the small gift in a backpack or bag so as not to attract attention. *Please note: Gifts are not encouraged as we prefer that your sponsored child does not consider you as a material resource, but as a mentor and supportive friend.
