Safe Passage, a Maine nonprofit corporation (“Safe Passage” or “we”), is committed to protecting the privacy of people in our community, our donors, and our website visitors. This policy explains what types of information are collected by Safe Passage’s website https://www.safepassage.org (the “Website”) and explains how that information is used.

No data transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information.

What information do we collect?

Information you provide

When you make an online donation via the Website, sign up to receive Safe Passage emails or electronic newsletters, or register for events, you voluntarily provide us with personal information (such as name and email address

Automatically collected information

When you visit the Website, your browser may automatically send an Internet Protocol (IP) address and other user information, such as the browser you use. We may use this information for specific, limited purposes that are outlined below. 

Safe Passage uses your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer the Websites, tailor the Website to your location, and for metrics used to track website visitor traffic.

Cookies

The website uses cookies to automatically help provide better services. They remind us of who you are and your preferences for our Website based on website actions and transactions. The cookie is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to our Website. They also let us track your usage of our sites, so we know which parts of our sites are most popular. You can reject cookies or cancel them by instructing your web browser accordingly.

How do we use this information?

Email communications

In addition to other uses identified in this policy, we publish marketing emails to share announcements with our community about Safe Passage events, programs, services, and more.  Any data we gather about your email communications behavior (such as opens and clicks) is used only to help us send you the most relevant communications. 

Safe Passage does not provide, sell, or rent email addresses or other communications data to anyone outside the organization for any price at any time, although we may occasionally send an announcement, or event that we think may be of interest on behalf of a partner.

Age

Safe Passage respects children’s privacy and will not knowingly or intentionally collect personal information from children under age 13.  By using the Website you have represented and warranted that you are at least 18 years of age or using the Website with the supervision of a parent or guardian. If you are under the age of 13, do not, under any circumstance, submit any personal information to us and always rely on a parent or guardian to assist you. If Safe Passage learns that we have collected or received personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us using the contact information set forth below.

Security

Information flowing between our Website and its users is secured by Transport Layer Security (TLS), an encryption protocol that protects internet communications and is the successor protocol to Secure Socket Layer (SSL). All traffic to our sites is encrypted, including anything you submit through our donation pages.

Your Privacy Rights

Opt Out and Corrections

Upon your request, Safe Passage will (a) correct or update your personal information; (b) stop sending emails to your email address; and/or (c) disable your account to prevent any future donation through that account.  These requests should be directed to us using the contact information below.

EU, UK, Canada

In some regions, such as the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and Canada, you have rights that allow you greater access to and control over your personal information. You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time.

In some regions (like the EEA, UK, and Canada), you have certain rights under applicable data protection laws. These may include the right (i) to request access and obtain a copy of your personal information, (ii) to request rectification or erasure; (iii) to restrict the processing of your personal information; and (iv) if applicable, to data portability.
