Important announcement: coming full circle for Safe Passage
Dear Friends of Safe Passage,
Sometimes in this complicated world, stars align. Safe Passage and our educational community are living one of those moments. As we celebrate 25 years of our incredible history, I am thrilled to share some exciting news—we have hired our next Development Director and I think that you will agree that some divine intervention may be at play.
Rachel Meyn Ugarte has loved Safe Passage from almost our very beginning. From 2001 until 2013, Rachel dedicated herself to Safe Passage. First, she worked on the ground, hand and hand with our founder, Hanley, to build strong programs and trusting relationships with families in the community. In 2003, she headed to Maine to start our office and fundraising strategy in the United States, becoming the organization’s first Development Director in 2008. After leaving the organization as an employee, she served on our Board of Directors for four years until 2013.
After her time with Safe Passage, Rachel went on to continue to hone her many development and communications skills during 10+ years as the Chief Development Officer of La Clinica del Pueblo in Washington DC. She continued to learn, grow, and stretch into the thoughtful, strategic, highly successful fundraising professional and community advocate that she is today.
Rachel believes in collaborative, mutually beneficial, and reciprocal relationships with staff, colleagues, donors and community members and reflects her understanding that building teams and supporter networks requires long-term investment in the process and inclusivity from the get go. She believes strongly in the power of people to create change from the bottom up.
In commenting on coming full circle back to Safe Passage, Rachel says:
“Working with and through communities to create systemic positive change has been and always will be my purpose. I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Safe Passage, during this significant milestone year, and work with its incredible team, supporters, students, and families to honor its rich past and creatively design and build a more sustainable path forward.”
Rachel will be returning to Safe Passage full time on September 1st as both our first and our next Development Director. She will be working part time over the next 6 weeks but will be taking some deserved rest before taking the reins in September.
Please join staff, Board, and our entire educational community in welcoming Rachel Meyn Ugarte back to the fold. Rachel’s immense skills, thoughtfulness, and connections will provide the leadership and strategic vision needed for Safe Passage to flourish as we celebrate 25 years of incredible impact. Rachel Meyn Ugarte ha amado Camino Seguro desde casi nuestros inicios. Desde 2001 hasta 2013, Rachel se dedicó a Camino Seguro. Rachel cree en relaciones colaborativas, mutuamente beneficiosas y recíprocas con el personal, colegas, donantes y miembros de la comunidad y refleja su comprensión de que la construcción de equipos y redes de apoyo requiere una inversión a largo plazo en el proceso y la inclusión desde el principio. Cree firmemente en el poder de las personas para crear cambios de abajo hacia arriba.
Al comentar sobre su retorno a Camino Seguro, Rachel dice:
«Trabajar con y a través de las comunidades para crear un cambio positivo sistémico ha sido y siempre será mi propósito. Estoy más que emocionada de tener la oportunidad de regresar a Camino Seguro, durante este año de hito significativo, y trabajar con su increíble equipo, seguidores, estudiantes y familias para honrar su pasado, diseñar y construir creativamente un camino más sostenible hacia adelante.»
Rachel regresará a Camino Seguro a tiempo completo el 1 de septiembre como nuestra primera y próxima Directora de Desarrollo. Trabajará a tiempo parcial durante las próximas seis semanas, pero tomará un merecido descanso antes de asumir el liderazgo en septiembre.
