Every year on September 15th Guatemala celebrates its independence from Spain.
In honor of this holiday – and to celebrate the various parts of the country – our students took on some very special projects. Each grade learned about a different custom and culture within Guatemala, and then prepared various dances and songs to represent that area.
Wearing beautiful, creative costumes and accessories, they presented to their fellow students, as well as Safe Passage staff, teachers, and volunteers.
This was an important way for our students to not only celebrate Guatemala and feel a sense of national pride, it was also important for them to learn more about the diversity of cultures that make up their country.
It was also an opportunity for them to practice our school values of teamwork, as well as respect for one another. It was also a platform for them to practice presenting in front of others.
We are very proud of our students, who took great care in learning and presenting for this celebration.
Happy Independence Day!
